Applying new methods is the single biggest cleaning issue facing the NHS, according to a new opinion poll.
A questionnaire by leading UK cleaning industry blog www.cleanleanhealthcare.org highlighted the opportunities offered by efficient modern methods in NHS institutions, with 38 per cent believing it is a priority.
Keeping staff motivated and the training of staff were rated equally important with 25 per cent of the vote – higher than the current budget cuts.
James Blackhurst, managing director of Jigsaw Cleaning Systems - which runs the blog - said that new methods must be top priority.
“Many hospitals continue to use traditional methods of cleaning, still under the impression that these methods are the most effective”, he said.
“Healthcare cleaning products and methodologies have advanced a great deal in recent times and offer hospitals a more efficient and effective approach, while also potentially saving money.”
“Employing new methods with the latest technology helps the organisation in question, the staff and visitors who use the building as well as the cleaners themselves.
“One issue is the dust that is generated in the wards and side-rooms of hospitals each day. The solution is to use Masslinn cloths wherever possible to remove the dust before damp mopping, leaving the floors clean and streak-free.”
