Sleeping and Eating

liz_runningAs I stumble towards my marathon goal, I felt it was time to update people on what’s happening.  So many people have asked me how I’m doing, and it’s been really great to have your support.  Many thanks to everyone who has helped – either financially with a donation to Age UK, or psychologically with a kind word or two.

One of my goals in running the London Marathon was to raise money.  The other (more selfish one) was to improve my health.  I’m definitely feeling fitter and stronger, and although I’ve not lost much weight (booo), things have tightened up a bit so my clothes fit better.  I’ve even got the asthma under control.

I’m now on my last week of hard training before I start to rest for the big day.  In the last three weeks, I’ve done two 20 mile road races and this week I do my last long training run – 22 miles along the canal from Silsden to Leeds.  After that, it’s short and medium runs only (5-12 miles), and time to take stock and prepare.

Through all the hard months of training, this is the bit I’ve been looking forward to.  For once in my life, I have full permission to do the two things I enjoy most – eating and sleeping.  I plan to take full advantage of the instruction to “carb-load” (i.e. stuff myself with pasta and porridge) and to rest (i.e. fall asleep in front of the TV).  I’ve booked the hotel and the train, I’ve received my number and start instructions, and yesterday I went out and bought some jazzy new ¾ length running tights.  What more could a girl want?

On 17 April 2011, I will be running the London Marathon in support of Age UK.  I'd be delighted if you wanted to follow my blog (http://lizjones4ageuk.blogspot.com), and even more delighted if you wanted to contribute at http://justgiving.com/LizJones1
