Well, I’m deep into London Marathon pre-training now, and things are coming together. I’ve lost a few pounds, and got a new personal best time for 5k. I’m feeling fitter and stronger, and if this carries on, I’ll be ready to start training properly on Boxing Day, as planned.
I’m grateful to those of you who have wished me well with this challenge, and have to say I’ve been amazed at how many fellow runners have popped up out of the blue. There is certainly a surge of people taking more responsibility for their own health, and I hope that we can continue to spread that message amongst cleaning professionals.
Another highlight of recent weeks was the Scottish Health Facilities conference in Crieff. AHCP was well-represented, with both Denise and me there as official reps, as well as other members attending via their day jobs. Despite the rain (which was relentless), Crieff was fantastically beautiful, and as I ran through the downpour I felt properly good about life.
I felt even better that night when I won a vacuum cleaner in the raffle. There was a great range of prizes, including vouchers, rounds of golf, food hampers and wine, but only one vacuum cleaner. It was an apt prize for an AHCP member to win, and it’s already been put to good use.
I hope that you are all feeling as positive as I am at the moment, and that you are also thinking about ways you can improve your own health and that of your staff. Please keep your ideas coming in to your Branches for the President’s award, and let’s make 2011 the year of the healthy cleaning professional.
Liz
