More about AHCP…

We aim to assist our members to provide a service committed to excellence and cost effectiveness. To promote and develop measurable standards of service, responsive to changing needs of clients and to develop the interchange of knowledge and experience.
These aims have been developed from our original (1975) remit which was

  •  to do all within our power to supply, maintain and encourage an efficient domestic service to support the medical, nursing and allied services throughout the National Health Service in their work for the healing and the comfort of the sick,
  •  to provide and maintain a national code of practice to complement professional and occupational training,
  •  to take all such action as may be deemed necessary or expedient to improve standards of training amongst domestic staff within the National Health Service, Department of Health and comparable Government Service and Local Authority Service and
  • to promote co-operation by the inter-change of knowledge.
  • to maintain the established position of the Association as the recognised professional body able to advise on professional matters.

STRUCTURE

We have a National Chair assisted by five Regional Deputies (England North and South; Scotland; Wales and Ireland) with Branches within these Regions. Our current list of Officers is listed on the “Contacts” page.
Each Branch meets locally with the following aims and objectives:-

  • To uphold the National aims of AHCP
  • To represent the views of the Branch at national level.
  • To intervene on behalf of the members of the Branch on matters of national importance to the profession.
  • To provide facilities for the interchange and expansion of knowledge within the profession.
  • To provide a professional and social meeting point for the members of the Branch throughout the geographical location of the Branch.

Branches try to meet regularly so that local colleagues can discuss ideas and share experiences. Meetings may include social events, local Exhibition and Seminars all related to the members’ interests in the Cleaning and Support Services Industry. COUNCIL OF MANAGEMENT

governs the day-to-day running of AHCP and comprises representatives from each Branch as well as National Officers. The Chairman is elected annually from and by the corporate membership and the President is appointed from a shortlist by the Council of Management. Chair and President select the National Deputies. The Annual General Meeting held during the National Conference and Exhibition, is each member’s chance to be heard, but Branch Council Representatives act as a two way channel during the year.
The work of Council of Management is fully reported in the ACHP Journal.

AHCP JOURNAL

This contains many articles on topics relevant to the Industry as well as national and local news and details of other Associations’ meetings and events. Members also hear weekly from us with national initiative updates and to ask and answer technical and managerial queries.

CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

Our annual flagship event is the April Conference and Exhibition which is held around the United Kingdom. We also host joint events with other interested Associations.
The Exhibition is one of the most prestigious held in the UK.

WEBSITE/E-mail

Our website www.ahcp.co.uk is updated on a regular basis with matters of interest to members and prospective members.
Our Member-only Helpdesk is our most popular tool with over 300 regular participants networking by e-mail, sharing best practice and asking and answering topical questions.

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN?

Being part of the AHCP has many benefits as well as being part of an organisation with like minded individuals with similar operational problems to yours.
You have access to influencing the national agenda, a reference to many aspects of good practice, a “virtual” helpdesk, local meetings to network and ultimately the annual conference which updates latest practices and thoughts and informs us of new initiatives.
AHCP is a professional avenue to excellence and best practice - an opportunity to access information, advice and experience 24/7. It is the national voice of healthcare cleaning management and therefore needs your views, opinions and concerns to challenge those up above and at the centre of policy making. AHCP needs you as much as you need us. If you want to be challenged, stimulated and make a difference nationally, as well as enjoying the comradeship and friendship that being part of a proactive national association brings.
